Enabling Simple and Trusted Identity Technologies
The FIDO Alliance enables identity technologies that put trust and simplicity at the center of interactions among people, services, and devices.
The Alliance provides a member-driven forum that focuses on:
- Technical Specifications: Creating open, scalable, and interoperable mechanisms to enable simple, secure, privacy-preserving identity technologies, such as phishing-resistant user authentication with passkeys.
- Certification Programs: Developing and managing industry certification programs to ensure the successful worldwide implementation of its specifications and globally-recognized performance criteria.
- Education and Market Adoption Programs: Implementing educational and market adoption initiatives to promote its standards and certifications globally.

Specification Development
The FIDO Alliance has published user authentication specifications to enable phishing-resistant authentication with passkeys, credential exchange, and secure onboarding of edge and IoT devices. Specifications related to digital credentials and agentic authentication and commerce are currently under development. FIDO specifications are open and free for global use.
Certification Programs
The FIDO Alliance has certification programs to measure the compliance of products against FIDO specifications for user authentication and device onboarding, and globally recognized security and performance standards for biometrics and remote identity verification technologies. Certification helps ensure that standards are met and that security and interoperability requirements are upheld worldwide.

Membership
The FIDO Alliance is driven by the hundreds of global tech leaders across enterprise, payments, telecom, government and healthcare that have come together in support of the organization’s mission. Alliance members contribute by influencing the development of FIDO specifications, establishing best practices for deployment of FIDO technologies, and driving global awareness of the Alliance, its mission and the FIDO specifications.
Working Groups
The FIDO Alliance also has member-driven working groups that help to facilitate its mission, including developing specification and certification programs, providing deployment guidance, and driving adoption in various vertical markets and regions.
