Adam Powers, Technical Director, FIDO Alliance

The FIDO Alliance is pleased to announce the latest round of companies to complete FIDO certification, bringing the total number of certified products to 383. Companies with newly-certified products announced today include IoTrust Co., Ltd, ROWEM and SC TechOne Co., Ltd.

The FIDO® Certified program for functional certification provides assurance of compliance to FIDO standards, and has been a central component to achieving the Alliance’s vision for universal and interoperable strong authentication. The broad, worldwide lineup of certified products gives service providers an array of options to roll out FIDO Authentication.

Companies receive certification after going through a multi-step process, which includes interoperability testing. At these testing events, which are held roughly every 90 days, we are able to see first-hand how organizations are innovating around the FIDO specifications. While biometrics and security keys may come to mind when thinking about FIDO Authentication, the specifications are actually authenticator-agnostic. This opens up almost limitless possibilities for innovation.

Some of the more creative authentication methods we’ve seen coming through certification include:: touching certain points of an image on your mobile device or tablet; touching a button on your credit card, activating a special sound recognized by the website; and using fingerprint biometrics for a FIDO second-factor (FIDO U2F) implementation. These are just a few examples, but it means that FIDO Authentication provides the flexibility for service providers to deliver a wide range of use cases to consumers, all backed by FIDO’s strong cryptographic security.

Check out our previous certification updates to learn more about the the value of FIDO certification and how to make the most of FIDO certification. We also are looking forward to new certification programs to accommodate new specifications, and maturing requirements for organizations implementing and deploying FIDO-based solutions. Look for announcements soon.
