FIDO Alliance seeks increased government involvement to develop comprehensive guidelines for implementing a
phishing-resistant authentication standard within federal agencies. Co-chaired by Teresa Wu of IDEMIA, the working
group released an initial white paper and plans further collaboration with government entities to shape FIDO
authenticator implementation in the US government. This initiative responds to the Office of Management and Budget’s
call for phishing-resistant multifactor authentication (MFA) by 2024, providing an alternative to the Personal Identity
Verification (PIV) standard in certain scenarios, focusing on cloud environments and temporary access needs, aiming to
supplement rather than replace PIV authentication.
