The FIDO Alliance enables identity technologies that put trust and simplicity at the center of interactions among people, services, and devices. The Alliance provides a member-driven forum that focuses on:
- Technical Specifications: Creating open, scalable, and interoperable mechanisms to enable simple, secure, privacy-preserving identity technologies, such as phishing-resistant user authentication with passkeys.
- Certification Programs: Developing and managing industry certification programs to ensure the successful worldwide implementation of its specifications and globally-recognized performance criteria.
- Education and Market Adoption Programs: Implementing educational and market adoption initiatives to promote its standards and certifications globally.
The Alliance delivers upon its mission through a range of technical and adoption activities that actively engage FIDO Alliance members, governments, liaison partners and the broader industry at large.
The Alliance’s work focuses on the following areas:
User Authentication
The FIDO Alliance is working to reduce the world’s reliance on passwords through simpler, stronger authentication with passkeys. Based on open FIDO standards FIDO2 and UAF, passkeys allow users to sign-in quickly, easily and securely using the security features built into their devices.
FIDO Device Onboard
The FIDO Alliance’s FIDO Device Onboard (FDO) standard automates secure device onboarding for increased efficiency, supply chain risk management, and zero-touch, secure device onboarding at scale.
Digital Credentials
As verifiable digital credentials emerge as a secure and privacy-preserving method for presenting identity attributes, the FIDO Alliance is helping align industry efforts and accelerate adoption at scale.
