While biometrics offer convenience, passkeys provide the backbone for the next stage in authentication. Developed as a part of a global effort by Apple, Google, Microsoft, and the FIDO Alliance, passkeys replace traditional passwords with cryptographic keys stored securely on a user’s device. Instead of typing in a word or a phrase, users can confirm their identity through a fingerprint, a face scan, or a prompt in a trusted device.
