HID has joined the FIDO Alliance Board of Directors, with Sean Dyon serving as the company’s primary board delegate.

The appointment gives HID a seat on the governing body of the industry group behind standards for passkeys and passwordless sign-in.

HID has been a member of the FIDO Alliance since 2015 and has contributed to working groups covering FIDO2, digital credentials and consumer deployment. It has also worked with the alliance on research into identity security and convergence.

The board helps shape the alliance’s strategy, standards and certification priorities. HID plans to bring its experience in physical and digital identity systems to discussions on interoperability, lifecycle management and broader deployment.

The move comes as organisations take passkey projects beyond pilot stages and into wider use, increasing attention on how authentication tools work across different vendors and how credentials are managed over time at enterprise scale.

Research cited by HID and the FIDO Alliance found that 93% of organisations are at some stage of passkey adoption, while 65% report high or expert familiarity with the technology. The figures suggest a market moving from experimentation to operational deployment.
