Andrew Shikiar, executive director at the FIDO Alliance, offers an update on the group’s efforts to reduce reliance on passwords and discusses how to overcome barriers.

In the next phase of the effort, developers will start building websites that can support the FIDO2 standards. “The Web authentication protocol and the FIDO2 standards, for the first time, present an open, public API that any developer can use to add FIDO to their site,” he explains.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Shikiar discusses:

  • How the alliance is working to reduce the reliance on passwords;
  • FIDO’s efforts to educate consumers;
  • The barriers to establishing a password-free environment – and how to overcome them.

Shikiar is the executive director and chief marketing officer at the FIDO Alliance, a global consortium working to create open standards and an interoperable ecosystem for simpler, stronger user authentication. He previously led market development efforts for the Tizen Association, the LiMo Foundation and the Liberty Alliance Project.
