YubiKey 5.8 Developer Hackathon for the FIDO Alliance Dev community

August 5 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm EDT

Broad passkey adoption has transformed authentication and accelerated the adoption of phishing-resistant security across the globe. The FIDO Alliance developer community is invited to join Yubico to help explore what comes next.

On August 5, 2026 at 9:00 AM PT, Yubico will host an exclusive virtual developer hackathon focused on the upcoming YubiKey 5.8 firmware release. We’d love for your developers and other technical leads to join us in exploring what’s next for passkeys and hardware-backed trust. YubiKeys with our upcoming 5.8 firmware support the new CTAP 2.3 extensions, providing a hardware playground to experience the latest and greatest FIDO2 capabilities.

Participants will receive a limited-edition YubiKey 5C NFC running 5.8 firmware, specially laser-marked for the event, along with access to preview capabilities and guidance from the Yubico Developer Relations team.

Developers will have the opportunity to explore, get inspired, and push the boundaries of:

  • Hardware-backed signatures that extend passkeys beyond login to trusted actions, including human-in-the-loop authorization for AI workflows
  • Support for emerging digital wallet, identity, and payment experiences through privacy-preserving cryptographic capabilities
  • Improved user experiences involving more seamless credential discovery, autofill experiences, and fewer PIN prompts

This is an opportunity to build something interesting, experiment with emerging standards, provide feedback directly to our team, and help shape the future of hardware-backed authentication.

Participation is entirely optional, and early registration is encouraged due to global shipment of custom hardware. If you know developers within your organization who may be interested, we’d greatly appreciate you sharing the registration page with them. Seats are limited!
