FIDO Alliance webinar aimed at U.S. federal data-security officials to promote digital authentication while reassuring
them not to panic. It emphasizes that new anti-phishing measures are forthcoming, flexible, and won’t replace existing
personal ID verification (PIV) methods. The webinar and accompanying white paper suggest narrowing down
authentication methods to counter phishing, integrating FIDO authentication within the government’s zero trust
strategy, and conducting pilots for suitable authenticators while implementing digital ID risk assessments (DIRAs) to
overcome cultural barriers in adoption. The panelists stressed the importance of considering FIDO authentication as a
replacement for vulnerable authentication methods rather than PIVs and CACs.
