The FIDO Alliance congratulates our members and partners in the W3C Web Authentication Working Group for today’s much anticipated announcement that Web Authentication (WebAuthn) has reached the Candidate Recommendation (CR) milestone, meaning W3C now believes it has been widely reviewed, satisfies the Working Group’s technical requirements and is ready for commercial implementation. WebAuthn is part of the FIDO2 Project to ensure widespread interoperability within the authentication ecosystem among devices, clients, and servers.  This new specification from W3C defines how web browsers enable websites to offer simpler, stronger FIDO authentication to users with devices implementing FIDO2 Client to Authenticator Protocol (CTAP).
