Certification Update: FIDO Certified Products Grow to Over 200

By Adam Powers, Technical Director, FIDO Alliance

In the wake of the latest cluster of password leaks from previous hacks of LinkedIn, Myspace, Tumblr and Fling that exposed 642 million passwords, there is some good news for online service providers looking to break their dependency on passwords. The FIDO® Certified lineup now includes 212 products, giving service providers more options than ever to deploy FIDO standards for simpler, stronger authentication.

Organizations with new FIDO Certified products announced today include: Austria Card; Aware, Inc.; Beijing SHENQI Technology Co. Ltd.; Century Longmai Technology Co., Ltd; Coolpad Group Limited; Goodix; GOTrust Technology Inc.; IDEX; Infineon Technologies; INITECH Co., Ltd.; Institute for Information Industry; KDDI CORPORATION; KONA I Co., Ltd; Koscom Corporation; KT; KYOCERA Corporation; Ledger; LeEco; Lenovo; LG Uplus; Lightfactor; Neoframe, Inc.; Open Security Research (OSR); Penta Security Systems Inc.; Safran Identity & Security; SGA Solutions Co., Ltd.; Shenzhen Excelsecu Data Technology Co., Ltd; OneSpan; Yubico.

We can look to the growing collection of FIDO Certified products as part of the bigger FIDO picture. Today, there is a trend among industry-leading service and technology providers who back FIDO as the global authentication standard. And the momentum is only accelerating: this latest round of certification marks a growth of over 100 percent since the start of 2016.

It also includes the first FIDO Certified products that support Bluetooth® for wireless strong authentication. With these products, the Bluetooth authenticator needs only be near a Bluetooth-enabled device for the user to strongly authenticate to web apps on that device. With billions of Bluetooth-enabled devices out there, these initial certifications are only the start of a multitude of devices we see becoming FIDO Certified second factors.

We are also pleased to announce there is now a new option for those that want to offer FIDO authentication in products and services compliant with FIDO specifications: On Demand Testing. Introduced as an alternative to attending interoperability events, On Demand Testing is available all year, and in three separate formats: virtual; shipped; and in-person. On Demand Testing is currently available for FIDO U2F implementations, with FIDO UAF to be added soon. For more details, visit the certification area of the FIDO Alliance website.
