FIDO Authentication − Scoring on a Grand Scale with Payments Providers!
Today, Nok Nok Labs and their client Alipay announced that Alipay is implementing secure consumer payments based on FIDO authentication: https://www.noknok.com/what-they-say/press-releases/alipay-selects-nok-nok-labs-power-first-fido-readytm-authentication. Similar to the payments implementation that PayPal and Samsung achieved earlier this year (/news/item/the-fido-alliance-announces-first-authentication-deployment-paypal-samsung), the Alipay adoption of FIDO authentication is enabled through the Nok Nok Labs’ S3 suite, consisting of client and server software. Nok Nok Labs S3 suite leverages existing FIDO draft specifications, certified under the FIDO ReadyTM program to apply existing security capabilities on users’ devices, such as a built-in fingerprint sensor, camera or Trusted Platform Module (TPM), to provide easy-to-use FIDO authentication to any application. The FIDO Alliance site was recently adapted to reflect the fact that FIDO is real and ready for adoption now. Alipay, PayPal, Samsung and Nok Nok Labs demonstrate those claims with announcements like today’s good news.
With Samsung’s implementations of Synaptics fingerprint sensors in the Samsung Galaxy S5, the S5 mini and the Galaxy Tab, there are many opportunities right now for consumers to use FIDO authentication when Relying Parties (RPs), like Alipay and PayPal, leverage a landscape of hundreds of millions of FIDO Ready user devices.
